A message from Janet Bantz, President/CEO

 Dear Credit Union Members:

In recent weeks, many difficulties in the financial world have been brought to light, and this has caused many of you to ask questions abut your own situation and your deposits at CrossRoads Financial FCU.  Fortunately, I have strong answers to your safety and soundness questions.

First, CrossRoads is federally insured by a fund that is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government called National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Insurance Fund.  NCUA is funded by all federally insured credit unions.  The insurance fund covers deposits at least up to $250,000 per account, with additional coverage of up to $250,000 for IRA accounts.

Secondly, CrossRoads is very healthy with a strong balance sheet.  We are very well capitalized with a capital to asset ratio of 11.9% on August 20, 2008, well above the regulation's minimum requirement.  And, we have steered clear of all the sub-prime mortgage lending that is creating many problems in the financial markets.

I invite you to come in, call me, or email me to discuss further any of your questions or concerns.  I can be reached at 260-726-2142, extension 23, or
janetb@crossroadsfcu.org.

Sincerely, Janet Bantz, President/CEO

Watch out for Fraud
A large number of scams have been reported, many involving items sold on the Internet.  If a potential buyer sends you or someone you know a cashier's check or money order for more than that purchase price, beware!  The scammer, your potential buyer, then requests that the excess money be sent back to him by check or wire.  A few days later the seller, you, finds out that the cashier's check you received is not good.

If you fall for this scam and send the excess amount back to the potential buyer, you are out the money!  You may then have to pay a large amount back to the financial institution where you deposited the cashier's check or money order.

Stop before you become a victim.
If you feel you could be the victim of a scam notify your local police department as well as CrossRoads Financial FCU at 260-726-2142, 260-729-5100, 765-768-6554, or email
askus@crossroadsfcu.org

Scammer Summary:
1. Pays you more that the product is worth, then asks for the difference.
2. Does not care about the product, just the transaction.
3. Many scammers are from other countries.
