| Credit Union Credit Cards --- Still the Best! |
The Credit Card Disclosure Act of 2009 was intended by the government to tighten laws and protect consumers. But, as the February 22, 2010, effective date neared, many companies were doing all they could do to boost profits---even gouging cost-conscious consumers who maintain good credit.
In advance of the new regulations mean to protect you, some card issuers raised rates, jacked up minimum payments, lowered credit limits and added even more strange fees to protect their bottom line.
If you have a credit union credit card, you already know about the low-interest rate, low fees, reasonable grace period and great member service you receive with your credit union card. If you don’t have a credit union credit card, now is a great time to get a CrossRoads Visa card.
Credit unions weren’t involved in the abusive credit card practices—such as high over the limit fees and huge interest rate hikes that led to this law. Many credit unions were already in compliance with the new rules before they were proposed and you need to know how the law will affect you. The new law forces card issuers to show consumers everything. For example, if you generally make only the minimum pay each month, now you’ll see how long it will take to pay off your balance.
At CrossRoads, you get a better card and a better financial institution. The difference between credit unions and banks is that credit unions answer to a different group of owners—their members. As a member you receive better rates and service than if you’re a bank customer—which shareholders own.

Protect Yourself from Debit Card Fraud
|
|
|
Love your debit card? Keep in mind that as consumers use it more, thieves are also inventing new ways to 1980 steal our account information. Take steps to protect yourself:
- Watch for suspicious devices at restaurants and gas stations, where skimming crimes often occur
- Watch for signs of ATM tampering---loose connections, tape or loose wires
- Stand close to machines as you’re entering your PIN to protect yourself from hidden cameras
- Never let anyone enter your PIN for you
- Review your statements carefully for unauthorized charges.
- Close compromised accounts immediately and change PINs.
If you discover or suspect fraud, call us at 260-726-2142 to report it immediately. Your liability is limited to $50 per card if you report it within two business days. Your liability jumps to $500 if you report loses after two business days. Any loss reported more than 60 days after you receive a statement that includes an unauthorized charge is not valid. You’ll have more protection when you use your card as credit and sign your name than when you use it as debit with your PIN.
